Michael grew up in Auckland and studied law at Auckland University. During his degree he took some time out to travel during which time he lived in the UK and Ireland. Michael spent a lot of time in the countryside working with horses, on a stud farm and as polo groom. Back home he graduated with his LLB and was admitted to the bar in 1996.
He practised in general civil litigation for three years before taking up commercial law and has since concentrated on trusts, property and general commercial work.
Michael believes the best thing about being a commercial lawyer is that he gets to be involved in so many different and exciting businesses with inventors, entrepreneurs and creatives.
Michael has worked in country practices where it’s all hands to the pump. Learning to adapt, this has given them both a background in many facets of the law other than the ones they now focus on.
